Calgary Crossbody Bag - PDF Sewing Pattern
Calgary Crossbody Bag - PDF Sewing Pattern
The Calgary Crossbody Bag pattern is the perfect everyday bag! It's a medium sized bag with more room than one would think based on it's measurements, fits your small laptop and all the essentials.
This bags most fun feature is the flip over interior pocket! The panel on the front extends over the edge of the bag and into the lining, there you have a small snap button pocket which allows you to use the small snap pocket, but you can also choose to fold it out of the way to the outside of the bag when you want to find something in the bag. On the opposite side of the lining there's a big zipper pocket, a number of open slip pockets and a key lanyard.
This pattern comes with both inch and centimeter measurements. To see even more, beautiful Calgary Crossbody Bags for inspiration, and to see a video of the flip pocket make sure you check it out here on my blog.
BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY
This pattern is a bit more advanced, so it's suitable for the intermediate bagmaker.
MEASUREMENTS
Finished size: ~11 ½” (29cm) high, ~9” (20cm) wide at the base, while ~12” (30cm) wide at the top and ~5” (13cm) deep at the base.
SUPPLIES NEEDED
Fabric:
0.6 yards (50cm) - Exterior: Cotton, vinyl, faux leather or cork fabric (light blue crosshatch).
18” x 22” (45x55cm) - Decor: A fat quarter cotton fabric for the decor and strap (seashells and ocean creatures). If you’re using directional fabric, you might need to buy additional yardage depending on the direction of the print. You need to be able to cut two 20 ¼” (51.5cm) long pieces along the right direction of your fabric.
0.8 yards (70cm) - Lining: Cotton fabric (lifebuoys and anchors).
2” x 60” (5x150cm) - Shoulder Strap Bottom: Desired fabric for strap bottom, I recommend using something sturdy like faux leather, cork, vinyl or similar (white glitter vinyl).
Interfacing:
28” x 20” (70x50cm) - Heavy fusible interfacing: Fast 2 Fuse Heavy, Pellon 72F Peltex 2 Sided Fusible or Pellon 71F Peltex if you prefer one sided fusible.
10” x 20” (25x50cm) - Medium fusible interfacing: Decovil 1 Light, Vildona thin or Fast 2 Fuse Light or similar.
1 yard (1m) - Thin fusible interfacing: Vilene G700 woven fusible or Pellon SF101 Shape-Flex.
Notions:
1 - 13” (33cm) zipper (or longer): Should match your lining fabric.
2 - 1” (2.5cm) D-rings: You can use D-rings or O-rings of a different size, information in the pattern.
2 - 1” (2.5cm) Swivel snap hooks: You can use size snap hooks of a different size, information is in the pattern, however, if the hook is much wider, a fat quarter of the decor fabric is not enough and you’ll need a larger piece if you wish to use it for the strap.
1- 1” (2.5cm) Strap Slider: You can use a differently sized slider, as long as it matches your swivel snap hooks, information is in the pattern.
1 - ½” (1.25cm) Swivel snap hook: For key lanyard in the lining if desired.
1 - Magnetic snap: For exterior flap closure, choose a higher profile (thicker) one for ease of closing.
1 - Snap button: For interior pocket.
4 - Bag feet: Optional.
Rotary cutter, cutting mat and ruler.
Double sided quilting tape or fabric glue.
Wonder clips.
