The Florence Frayed Bag is the perfect little evening bag, very high end and exclusive looking with it's frayed seams and very structured shape. It's got a fully lined zipper pocket and an open slip pocket for your cellphone and you can chose to make it with or without handle connectors.

The Florence Frayed Bag is absolutely a new favourite for me, so fun to sew and you will for sure get the question "where did you buy that bag" when you wear it! This PDF sewing pattern is fully templated and comes with both inch and centimeter measurements

BASIC SKILLS NECESSARY

This is a good pattern for the intermediate bag maker.

MEASUREMENTS

~9" (23cm) long, ~5 1⁄2” (14cm) high and ~4 (10cm) deep at the bottom.

SUPPLIES NEEDED

Fabric:

12” (30cm) - Exterior and lining:
A reasonably sturdy fabric that frays. Like denim, canvas, panama, home decor fabric or boucle. The fabric will have fusible interfacing so it needs to be able to be pressed from the front. More will be needed if you have a directional fabric.

8” x 8” (20x20cm) - Zipper pocket lining:
Scrap of desired pocket lining fabric, cotton for example.

15”x15” (40x40cm) - Vinyl:
Vinyl, faux leather or similar, where edges can be left raw for handles and zipper pocket. Make sure it’s not thick or heavy as we’re making elegant, slim handles that need to be folded 8 times.

Interfacing:

16” x 16” (41x41cm) - Double sided, fusible heavy interfacing:
Pellon Peltex 72, Fast 2 Fuse Heavy or similar.
I strongly recommend a double sided fusible. If you don’t have a double sided fusible, you can use a fusible web like Heat n’ Bond Lite, Vliesofix Bondaweb or similar, the kind you use for appliqué to fuse the interfacing to the fabric. Only needed if you don’t have a
double sided heavy interfacing.

Notions:

8” (20cm) - #3 Zipper:
Or longer for zipper pocket closure.

1 - Bag lock.
Any bag lock of your choosing, turn, click, or magnetic.

4 - Strap anchors (to attach the handles to):
Optional. I’ve used the “Long John” anchors from Emmaline Bags, but any can be used.

2 - Small strap anchors (to attach a strap to):
Optional. I’ve used the mini anchors from Sallie Tomato but any can be used.

4 - Double sided rivets:
8mm or smaller cap. To attach the handles.

4 - Bag feet:
Optional. For an elegant look and protects the bottom of your bag.

Non-permanent marker:
For making temporary marks, that can be removed with water or heat.

Double sided sewing tape.
100/16 sturdy sewing machine needle (preferably a topstitch kind).
Rotary cutter, cutting mat and ruler.
Fabric clips.
